The St Vincent de Paul Society in NSW provides a variety of services to make a real difference to the lives of people on the margins of society. For over 130 years the Society has operated as a lay Catholic volunteer-based organisation serving communities across NSW.

In addition to providing community programs and services, the Society operates over 240 Vinnies stores across NSW. Supporting a team of approximately 1,550 employees, the Society relies on the generosity of its donors and supporters and 25,000 members and volunteers working with the community’s most vulnerable across 390 conferences in ten central council areas in the state.

The Society in NSW is governed by the NSW State Council. In 2013, the State Council and the National Council established a Corporations Act 2001 company with the objectives of governing the management of the commercial work and entities of the Society in NSW.

Under a new constitution for this company which came into effect on 1 January 2018, the board is to comprise six Vincentian (Company Member) directors and to up to three skills-based independent directors. The Company Member Directors are now seeking to appoint three suitably skilled independent directors to the board. 

Regardless of their faith background, candidates must be able to demonstrate an affinity with the mission of the St Vincent de Paul Society combined with the desire and preparedness to work within that mission, and to be a passionate advocate for the work of the organisation.

In addition to board-level experience in comparable large and complex organisations, candidates must have skills, knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • strategy and policy
  • finance and audit skills (must be CA or CPA qualified)
  • risk management and compliance
  • ICT and digital matters.

Current retail experience in an organisation comparable to the size and nature of the retail division of the company is also highly desirable.

All board roles are voluntary. Reasonable expenses associated with attending to board duties will be met by the company. Applications are invited from directors across NSW.
